Rio Grande Valley March for Life – Feb. 2
Join Bishop Daniel E. Flores and Auxiliary Bishop Mario A. Avilés for the Annual Rio Grande Valley Rally and March for Life on Feb. 2. The rally will begin at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Church at 900 S. 23rd St. in McAllen. After the rally, the march will proceed peacefully to Sacred Heart Church to show love and support for the wonderful gift of every human life. Marchers will be praying along the way and singing hymns of praise and exultation. RGV World Youth Day 2019 – Feb. 2 in Mission
A Rio Grande Valley World Youth Day celebration, the Light of Hope – RGV World Youth Day 2019 is set for 8 a.m.- 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Mission Event Center, 200 North Shary Road in Mission. For ages 16-35, the event will feature keynote speakers, breakout sessions in English and Spanish, music, food and much more.

Voices United Informational Conference Feb. 2
The Voices United Informational Conference is set for 9 a.m.-12 noon, Feb. 2 at Our Lady of Assumption Parish in Harlingen. Stay updated with laws in Texas and know your rights. Bereavement Support – A Journey from Grief to Healing
Holy Family Church Bereavement Community Support Group invites the community to a seminar, “What You May Need When Your Loved One Passes On,” on Saturday, Feb. 2 in Edinburg. The presenter, attorney Aurelio Garza, will talk on these topics:
• Incapacitation of you or your loved one
• probate
• affidavit of heirship
• medical directive
• medical and general power of attorney
A question and answer period of 15 minutes will follow, and funeral pre-planning pamphlets will be distributed. Meet With Brighthouse Representative Feb. 6 and 7
Michael Gonzalez will visit our Diocese again in February. He is our Brighthouse representative for employees who still have funds with them. Bishop Daniel E. Flores will mark World Marriage Day by celebrating Mass at 2 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle-National Shrine. This will be a Mass of Thanksgiving for couples who bear witness to God’s love through their love and commitment to each other through the sacrament of Matrimony, and are celebrating a wedding anniversary of 10, 25, 30, 40, 50 , 60 or more during 2019. Sing to the Lord – Music in Divine Worship: Musicians Workshop Feb. 9
A Musicians Workshop sponsored by the Office of Liturgy and Worship of the Diocese of Brownsville is set for Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Bishop Marx Conference Center at the Pastoral Center in San Juan. The workshop begins at 9 a.m. and ends with Holy Mass at noon. Deadline to register for the workshop is Monday, Feb. 4. Introduction to Divine Will – Feb. 9 in Edinburg
Laity, deacons and priests all are invited to “Introduction to Divine Will,” presented by the Rev. Alfonso M. Guevara E.V., pastor of St. John the Baptist Parish in San Juan. Panelists include Deacon Luis A. Treviño of Holy Spirit Church and Mary Guzman, Divine Will Advocate. Annual Diocesan Appeal
The 2018 Diocesan Appeal, which provides Bishop Daniel E. Flores with discretionary funding for urgent local needs around the diocese, is coming to a close at the end of January. All funds raised remain in the diocese, with 30 percent returned as rebates directly to their parish of origin, and the remaining 70 percent disbursed as needed in the form of grants.

Envelopes for the appeal were previously distributed at the parish level and can be returned until Jan. 31; pledges can be fulfilled in a single payment or in installments after the deadline if envelopes are returned before the date. All contributions are tax-deductible.

Good Grief: An 8-Week Course for Grief Ministry (Death and Divorce)
Facilitator training for dealing with death and divorce continues this month and next. This course highlights some of the Ministry Programs available that can be facilitated in parishes, to help those who have lost a loved one through death or a spouse through divorce.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
Participants will …
• be introduced to two Grief Programs:
1) “The New Day Program” for persons who have lost a loved one;
2) “Divorce and Beyond” for persons who have lost a spouse through divorce;
• study the stages of grief;
• reflect and share on their own experience of dealing with loss;
• complete written homework assignments;
• practice facilitation skills (role play both as a participant and as a facilitator);
• write a proposal to their pastor for a grief program.

Train the Trainers Sessions Planned for February
There will be a Train the Trainers for “Protecting God’s Children” on Feb. 5 or on Feb. 9 from 10 a.m.-12 noon at the Madonna Room in the Bishop Fitzpatrick Building in San Juan. This class is for those who would like to present this program in their parish for religious educational staff and parents. It is also for current facilitators who would like a refresher.

You may attend either day and be certified to train. There is no cost for the training.

Lord, I Want to Walk With You – A Day of Spiritual Renewal

Pilgrimage to Spain, Portugal and France
Father Luis F. Sánchez and St. Pius X in Weslaco are organizing an 11-day pilgrimage from April 22 through May 2. The pilgrimage will begin at Fatima, Portugal followed by stops in Santiago de Compostela, Lourdes, and Barcelona. Divine Mercy Pilgrimage to Eastern Europe Set for Late Spring
St. Therese of Lisieux Parish in San Benito, under the spiritual direction of Father Joe Villalón, is organizing a pilgrimage to five countries in Eastern Europe from April 25-May 5. The pilgrimage includes round-trip airfare from McAllen and stops in Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary, with daily Mass and observance of the Divine Mercy Feast Day. Highlights include following the footsteps of St. John Paul and visits to Our Lady of Czetochowa, Our Lady of Kalwaria, St. Vitus and St. Wenceslao, the Infant Jesus of Prague, Our Lady of Svata Hora and St. Istvan’s Cave Church.

Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) is the domestic anti-poverty social justice program of the United States Catholic Bishops. CCHD grants local anti-poverty efforts that are in close partnership with local Catholic dioceses an opportunity to improve their communities by supporting organizations led by low-income individuals. The CCHD internship position is an opportunity to gain experience working with and on behalf of the poor while learning more about social justice education, Catholic social teaching and poverty relief. Interns will have an opportunity to develop relationships with local community leaders and other CCHD interns across the United States.
